Not All Silk Is Tamed. This One Never Was.

Deep in the forests of Jharkhand, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh, where the Arjun and Asan trees grow thick and unhurried, a silkworm called Antheraea mylitta spins its cocoon in the open air. No controlled room. No mulberry farm. Just wild trees, open sky, and the slow, patient work of nature producing something extraordinary: Tussar silk.

It is coarser than Mulberry silk. Richer in texture. Deeper in colour. And it carries within its fibre a warmth and earthiness that no cultivated silk can replicate. This is the silk that Dakshin Vastram brings to you — in London, Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, New York, Chicago, Amsterdam, and beyond.

The Texture That Sets Tussar Apart

Run your fingers across a Tussar silk saree and you will feel something you have not felt in other silks. There is a slight irregularity to the weave — not a flaw, but a fingerprint. Each thread carries the natural variation of wild silk, and the result is a fabric with depth, character, and a surface that catches light in a way that is entirely its own.

The colour palette of Tussar is equally distinctive. Its natural base is a warm, earthy gold — not the bright yellow of synthetic silk, but the muted, organic tone of something grown in the wild. Against this base, weavers layer intricate patterns: floral motifs, geometric borders, traditional tribal-inspired designs that have been passed down through generations of artisans in eastern India.

Handwoven. Every Single One.

Every Tussar saree at Dakshin Vastram is handwoven on traditional looms. The weaver begins with raw Tussar yarn — reeled from wild cocoons, degummed, and spun by hand — and works it into the loom with the patience that only a craftsperson who loves their work can sustain. The result is a saree that is never quite identical to any other. The pattern may be the same. The saree never is.

This is what handloom means. Not a label. A reality.

Occasions That Deserve Tussar's Earthy Elegance

  • Durga Puja & Navratri — The earthy warmth of Tussar honours the goddess with quiet devotion
  • Wedding guest & reception wear — Stand out without overpowering — Tussar is elegance without effort
  • Diwali & festive gatherings — The natural gold of Tussar mirrors the warmth of the season
  • Corporate & formal occasions — From London's financial district to Brussels' conference rooms, Tussar commands quiet authority
  • Cultural evenings & art events — A saree for those who appreciate craft as much as beauty
  • Gifting for connoisseurs — For the woman who already has everything, give her something she has never felt before

Why Dakshin Vastram for Tussar

Tussar silk is widely imitated and rarely authentic. Power-loom versions flood the market, offering the look without the substance. At Dakshin Vastram, we source only genuine handloom Tussar — traced to the weaving communities of eastern India, verified for authenticity, and selected for the quality of both the silk and the craft.

  • Wild silk sourced from Jharkhand and Bihar's forest communities
  • Genuine handloom — no power-loom imitations
  • International delivery — UK, USA, EU, Canada, and beyond
  • Carefully packaged to protect the delicate Tussar weave in transit
  • Expert guidance on care, draping, and styling your Tussar saree

For Women Who Choose Substance Over Shine

Tussar is not for everyone. It does not dazzle from across the room. It draws people closer. It rewards attention. It is the saree that earns compliments not at first glance, but at second — when someone reaches out to touch the fabric and says, what is this?

Our Tussar customers live in Leicester, Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton, Walsall, and Dudley. They order from New York, Chicago, Houston, Amsterdam, Paris, and Düsseldorf. They are women of taste, not trend.

This saree is for them. It is for you.

Wild silk. Quiet luxury. Worn by women who know the difference.
