A handwoven pure Katan silk saree from Bishnupur, West Bengal — woven on traditional pit looms from tightly twisted pure silk threads that produce a fabric of exceptional smoothness, firmness, and natural depth of colour. Blouse piece included. A saree that rewards touch as much as sight — made by artisan weavers in one of India's most revered handloom towns.

Styling Suggestions

Let the Katan silk drape lead the look. Pair with fine gold jewellery — a delicate chain, small earrings — for Durga Puja and puja occasions. For weddings and receptions, add statement temple gold or antique polki to complement the weave's depth. The included matched blouse piece is pre-woven for this saree and requires no additional tailoring.

  • Holds clean pleats and drape with ease across long festive occasions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes Katan silk from Bishnupur distinctive from other Indian silks?
A: Bishnupur Katan silk is woven from tightly twisted pure silk threads on traditional pit looms by artisan families in Bishnupur, Bankura, West Bengal. The tight twist of the Katan yarn produces a fabric that is smoother, firmer, and more structured than loosely woven or blended silks — with a natural depth of colour and lustre that improves with careful wear and storage. The weave is entirely by hand, and the motifs are woven directly into the silk rather than printed or applied.

Q: What occasions is this saree suited for?
A: This Katan silk saree is suited to Durga Puja, Diwali, Navratri, Karva Chauth, Onam, Raksha Bandhan, weddings, and cultural galas. Its traditional Bengal motifs and refined Katan silk fabric make it appropriate for both intimate family occasions and formal festive events.

Q: How do I style this Katan silk saree?
A: Drape in the traditional Bengali pleated style with the pallu over the left shoulder. For puja occasions, pair with fine gold jewellery. For weddings and receptions, add statement antique or temple gold. The included matched blouse piece is woven for this saree and requires no additional tailoring.

Q: How do I care for a Bishnupur Katan silk saree?
A: Dry clean after each significant wearing. Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth in a cool, dark, dry place. Avoid hanging — the silk's weight can distort the weave over time. Correct care allows a Katan silk saree to retain its texture, lustre, and motif clarity across many seasons of wear.

Q: Does this ship internationally for NRI and diaspora buyers?
A: Yes — we ship to the UK, USA, EU, Canada, and Australia. This Bishnupur Katan silk saree is a trusted festive and gifting choice for the Indian diaspora in London, New York, Toronto, Sydney, and Dubai — for Durga Puja, Diwali, and the Indian wedding season.
