A handwoven pure silk Baluchari stole from Bishnupur, West Bengal — wearable textile art, made on traditional pit looms with narrative mythological motifs woven in fine silk thread by master weavers in Bankura district. For the buyer who does not simply want a beautiful accessory, but wants to own a piece of one of India's most technically demanding handloom traditions.

Styling & Display

Drape over a saree or salwar for women; fold lengthwise over a kurta or sherwani for men. For textile collectors, the stole can be mounted and framed as a display piece — the terminal panels in particular reward close and extended attention.

  • Pure silk, handloom woven in Bishnupur, West Bengal — each piece unique by virtue of hand craftsmanship
  • Authentic Baluchari narrative motifs — Ramayana and Mahabharata figures woven in silk at master weaver level
  • Richly worked terminal panels; geometric and floral borders; wearable and displayable
  • Unisex — for men and women at cultural, festive, and formal occasions
  • For Durga Puja, Diwali, Navratri, Raksha Bandhan, weddings, Eid, and classical cultural events
  • Dry clean only; store folded in muslin to preserve silk and woven motif integrity
  • Ships internationally — for collectors and connoisseurs in UK, USA, EU, Canada, and Australia

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What makes a Bishnupur Baluchari stole a work of textile art?
A: The Baluchari tradition requires its weavers to reproduce complex narrative scenes from Indian epic literature — character figures, costumes, and story panels — entirely in silk thread on a traditional pit loom. This level of visual and technical precision takes years to develop and cannot be replicated by machine or shortcut. Each Bishnupur Baluchari stole is a singular object: a piece of wearable textile art that carries the full craft history of one of India's most demanding handloom traditions.

Q: Who is this stole for?
A: For buyers who collect Indian handloom textiles, for women and men who want to wear an authentic piece of Bishnupur craft at Durga Puja, Diwali, Navratri, cultural events, or formal occasions, and for those seeking a deeply considered gift for Raksha Bandhan, weddings, or Eid — for a recipient who would recognise and appreciate the craft provenance of what they receive.

Q: Can this stole be displayed as well as worn?
A: Yes. The terminal panels of a Bishnupur Baluchari stole — with their dense, finely rendered narrative motifs — reward display as much as wear. Many collectors choose to mount and frame Baluchari stoles as textile art pieces. The stole can move between display and wear without compromising either function, provided it is handled and stored with appropriate care.

Q: How should I care for this pure silk Baluchari stole?
A: Dry clean only. Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth in a cool, dark, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Do not machine wash, hand wash, or iron directly on the woven motif panels. Correct care preserves both the silk's natural lustre and the structural integrity of the woven figures.

Q: Does this ship internationally for collectors and diaspora buyers?
A: Yes — we ship to the UK, USA, EU, Canada, and Australia. This Bishnupur Baluchari stole is sought by textile collectors and culturally conscious buyers in London, New York, Toronto, Sydney, and Dubai who want an authentic piece of Indian handloom craft from a named weaving centre with a verifiable tradition.
