Every year, as October draws near, something stirs. The air changes. The city changes. And somewhere in every Bengali home — in Kolkata, in Siliguri, in Durgapur, in the Bengali para of every city across India — a woman opens her wardrobe and asks herself the most important question of the season:

What will I wear for Puja?

This year, the answer is the Banarasi Muga Tussar Saree.

It is a saree that was made for exactly this moment — for the Saptami morning when the dhak begins and the air smells of shiuli flowers, for the Ashtami anjali when you stand before the goddess in your finest, for the Navami evening when the pandal lights are golden and so is everything you are wearing.

Muga Tussar silk is India’s rarest golden silk — born wild, harvested by hand, and carrying within its fibres a warmth that no dye can replicate. It is the colour of early morning sunlight. Of marigold garlands. Of the goddess herself. When this silk is woven on the ancient looms of Varanasi by craftsmen who have inherited their skill across generations, it becomes a Banarasi — and a Banarasi Muga Tussar is something else entirely.

The pallu is where the weaver has poured his finest work: intricate zari motifs, traditional Banarasi patterns of lotus and paisley and geometric jaal, worked in gold thread with a patience that cannot be rushed. The border frames the saree with quiet authority. The body drapes with a weight and fall that feels like it was made for your silhouette.

This is not just a Puja saree. It is the saree you will reach for again — for your daughter’s wedding, for Diwali, for every occasion that asks you to show up as your most beautiful self.

Wear It For

  • Durga Puja — Saptami, Ashtami & Navami — the three days that define the Bengali year
  • Diwali & Lakshmi Puja — golden silk for the festival of light
  • Weddings & Bridal Occasions — as the bride, the mother, the woman everyone notices
  • Saraswati Puja & Basant Panchami — for the woman who dresses with devotion
  • Navratri & Dussehra — nine nights of celebration in one timeless saree
  • Poila Boishakh — Bengali New Year deserves Bengal’s finest silk sensibility
  • Family Milestones & Cultural Events — because some moments deserve to be dressed beautifully

Celebrated Across India

In Kolkata’s Puja pandals, this saree is a statement. In the Bengali communities of Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, it is the saree that carries home with it. In Varanasi, where it is woven, it is worn with the pride of a craftsman’s family. In Patna, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, and Guwahati, it is the festive silk that women save for the most important days.

Across West Bengal, Assam, Odisha, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh — and in every city where Durga Puja is celebrated with the full heart of Bengal — this saree belongs.

The Craft Behind It

  • Pure Muga Tussar silk — naturally golden, wild-harvested, one of India’s most treasured fibres
  • Handwoven on traditional Banarasi looms with fine zari work on pallu and border
  • Rich drape with excellent body — holds beautifully through long Puja days and festive evenings
  • Natural golden colour that deepens and enriches with every wear
  • Blouse piece included

Puja comes once a year. This saree will last a lifetime. Choose accordingly.
